WARLORD & BATTLE

I am a big comic fan, but when I was young, the funny titles didn't interest me much. What I loved was war stories. I grew up with Warlord, Battle and Commando Picture Library.

Every week I would look forward to the adventures of Lord Peter Flint, and devour strips like Johnny Red, Darkies Mob, Major Eazy, D-Day Dawson, The Rat Pack, Union Jack Jackson, Kampfgruppe Falken and, of course Charley's War.

Not many war-stories in comics these days, but Garth Ennis has, in addition to the frankly childish (but brilliantly funny) Adventures In The Rifle Brigade, written some excellent tales in his War Stories (Vertigo/DC) and Battlefields (Dynamite) series, and is a well-known fan of the genre.

Atomic Robo
Now, this figure is just begging to be converted for my American allies for Section 13!
This, of course is Nikola Tesla's creation, Atomic Robo, and the pic is from the superb graphic novel "Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War
", the second volume published by Red 5 Comics.

Volume 3 has just started in the individual comics. Great writing and art from Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener. Exciting and funny, and this latest series features H P Lovecraft and Charles Fort! Recommended if you like Hellboy, BPRD, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Scarlett Traces or the Umbrella Academy

Weird War II? A robot created by Tesla, who has met Lovecraft and Fort, and fought in the war?
I'm going to have to find a suitably chunky GI miniature I can add an old Iron Man head to.

"The Major" and Hans
Two Heroclix figures, Major Maxim and The Blob, I am currently repainting. The mysterious Major and his manservant/sidekick, Hans make perfect opposition for Section 13.

Subject 1898/006 "Moor Thing"
A repainted World of Warcraft miniature. Amusingly for a Swamp Thing-like figure, the face on this one reminds me of writer Alan Moore, so he has been recruited to my League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, as well as being a member of Section 13. Still a work-in-progress.
